Miguel Oliveira is one of many riders with an uncertain future in MotoGP. Currently in the final year of his contract with Trackhouse Racing, his performances have not unequivocally shown that he deserves to continue with the team or be considered by another team.
Last week, the Italian press reported that the Portuguese rider might be in talks with Prima Pramac Racing. Oliveira labeled this as speculation in statements to SportTV on Monday:
– The rumors come from things that are not true, and then things are created from nothing. In essence, that’s it. So, I can only say that they are rumors, as I’m sure during these three weeks, there will also be many rumors created from nothing or from distorted words and statements that someone might make.
Speculation is always part of the MotoGP silly season, especially in a year like this when almost all riders are out of contract. Many rumors do not come to fruition, others become reality, and there are also surprises, such as Jorge Martín’s announcement by Aprilia this Monday.
As for Oliveira, one thing is certain: despite only failing to score points in one of the first seven Grands Prix of the season, he will need to improve his results and performances, regularly finishing in the top ten and staying close to the other current Aprilia RS-GP bikes. This would strengthen his negotiating position in this market window.
