MotoGP has two more years with the current technical regulations but in 2027 there will be a drastic change, with them going from 1000cc to 850cc. And that’s exactly why Yamaha has to make important decisions, as explained by Max Bartolini.
The head of development of the new V4 engine (and motorcycle) of the Japanese manufacturer said that time does not slow down and there are important decisions to be made, as he explained to the MotoGP podcast: ‘2027 is approaching. In any case, we cannot continue to develop several projects in parallel – it consumes a lot of time and effort’.
Thus, the Italian explained that the team will have to make a choice soon with a view to the future: ‘Therefore, we must decide soon. We will stay with the fastest package, regardless of which one it is’.
Bartolini had said that it is important to «accelerate» more than the competition in development, since Yamaha is currently going through a less competitive moment.
The years 2025 and 2026 will be decisive, since the manufacturer now has a satellite team again, which will give it twice the data to make decisions. Miguel Oliveira and Jack Miller will be the Pramac Racing riders.
