The MotoGP testing week in Qatar has already begun, with two days of work at Losail. With four and a half hours left on the opening day, Maverick Viñales is in the lead.
Still in daylight hours, the riders have accumulated few laps so far: the vast majority have completed no more than 15 laps. Viñales (Aprilia) has only completed nine laps, and on his best one, he clocked a time of 1m54.883s. He leads Jorge Martín (Pramac Ducati) by 0.258s. Marc Márquez (Gresini Ducati) is third, followed by Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha) and Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM).
Further down the field, Joan Mir (Repsol Honda) sits eighth with the best RC213V, ahead of rookie Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GasGas Tech3) – who has completed the most laps so far with 21. The reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) is in 20th place, just ahead of three riders who have not yet taken to the track: Johann Zarco (LCR Honda), Raúl Fernández (Trackhouse Racing/Aprilia) and Takaaki Nakagami (LCR Honda).
