This first round of the MotoGP world championship ended with Fabio Quartararo in P11 and Álex Rins in P16. Those positions weren’t on Massimo Meregalli mind before the start of the season and, the changed introduced from saturday to sunday weren’t enough.
The Team Director started exactly by saying he was expecting better but, after the Sprint race, the hints that there was going to be a complicated race on sunday were clear: ‘We had hoped to be in a more competitive position when we arrived here, but saturday’s Sprint already showed that we have more work to do. While we were 6s faster in saturday’s Sprint than we were last November, it’s not enough yet’.
Despite trying to find something out for the Long race, such was not possible: ‘Yamaha has been taking the riders’ feedback on board and will be working on updates. But realistically this was not something that could be solved within 24 hours. So, for this sunday’s Race we made some set-up changes and discussed with the riders how to best manage the tyres’.
