Livio Suppo is someone who knows MotoGP in depth and has a lot of experience in the paddock, and in an analysis of the 2024 season he had no doubts in saying that the duo Jorge Martín and Pecco Bagnaia were a level above the rest, considering the #89’s title to be fair given the regularity of the Pramac Racing rider.
He was in an exclusive interview with Motosan, where he began by recalling how Pramac, with the support of Ducati, proved that not only factory teams can win: ‘Last year, many people thought it was impossible to win the championship if you weren’t in the factory team, but Jorge and Pramac proved that wasn’t right and Ducati also confirmed it’.
Even so, the factory team would naturally have liked to have seen Bagnaia win the “thriple”, although the continued support for Martin and his team has also given them a good image: ‘I think, of course, Ducati would have been happy if Pecco had won again, but the fact that Martin won before shows that Ducati has treated them fairly. And I think this is very positive for Ducati’s image. We know that this sport, motorcycling, is an area where the rider always makes the biggest difference’.
The difference between the pair was clear, he admitted, even in the face of other riders with the same conditions, namely Enea Bastianini and Franco Morbidelli: ‘And when the team is the same, as it was this season between Jorge and Pecco, they clearly made the difference compared to the others, like Enea and Morbidelli’.
Given Martín’s final victory, Suppo believes that it showed that consistency was once again decisive, while the now #63 made too many mistakes:
– Apart from this, Jorge was able to make fewer mistakes and win the championship. Because, at the end of the day, Jorge won the championship because he was fast and consistent, while Bagnaia made too many mistakes.
