One of the most impactful moments, literally, happened on Saturday with Marco Bezzecchi and Maverick Viñales crashing, and with the Spaniard immediately showing a clear sign of displeasure that, yesterday, deserved the Italian’s comment at the end of the Australian GP, who made strong criticisms of his opponent’s attitude.
Bezzecchi recalled the moment in the Sprint, considering it strange and with the dynamics of the movement and displacement of the air being decisive for the crash: ‘It was a strange situation, Maverick passed me taking advantage of the slipstream, and the change of air displaced my bike to the left, forcing me to bend the bike slightly to return to the track, despite the wind working in the opposite direction’.
The VR46 Racing Team rider ended up suffering from the effect of the air cone, and thus could not avoid the touch that resulted in the crash of both: ‘The problem is that, throughout this process, he was positioned right in front of my bike, he also anticipated the braking and you can see in the video that he gave an initial touch before braking again. At that time, I was still moving to the right and was sucked into his wake, unable to do anything to avoid contact’.
With both riders going to the circuit’s Medical Center, they had the opportunity to talk and there Bezzecchi and Viñales had a frank conversation about what happened, although the Italian later criticized his opponent’s words to the press, accusing the Aprilia rider of changing his speech: ‘We spoke at the medical center. He told me that there was no problem and that the important thing was that we were both okay. Then he went to the interviews and said something completely different. I don’t care, in the end what matters is that we are both okay, especially me. I feel sorry for him, but my accident was more critical’, he said about the subject.
In addition, Bezzecchi made it clear that he was not at all happy with Viñales’ reaction, who when getting up did not hesitate to raise his middle finger, in discontent: ‘I didn’t like his behavior immediately after the crash. Honestly if it was on his side, if the situation was reserved, I would check how the other rider was instead of doing the middle finger and say f*ck to me many times. Anyway the important is that we are fine’.
