Marc Márquez currently holds eight World Championship titles, six of them in MotoGP. As a result, he is just one title away from matching Valentino Rossi’s milestone, something that seemed inevitable when he became champion in 2019.
However, after the serious injury to his right arm in 2020 and subsequent physical problems, he is also riding a less competitive Honda that doesn’t give him a chance to compete at the front. In an effort to change his fortunes, Márquez will be moving to Gresini in 2024, where he will ride a Ducati.
Nevertheless, the Spanish rider rejects the idea of immediately targeting more titles. In an interview with Crash.net, #93 argued that it’s an unrealistic goal considering the challenges he has faced in recent years:
– At the moment, I’m not thinking about matching that record because I’m far from my level. And I cannot approach next season like: «I will try to win the title». It’s already two years that I’m not winning a single race. So with that statistic, you cannot approach from one season to the next: «Now I will win the championship». First of all, I need to build the confidence, to build the base and then from that base start to be faster and try to improve in the future.
