With rain falling at Losail, Marc Márquez led the second free practice session of the Qatar MotoGP Grand Prix. The session was brought forward (it would have been tomorrow) due to the weather conditions, with the session that counts for the qualification for the second phase of qualifying postponed to tomorrow.
After the first few laps, the leader was Augusto Fernández (Red Bull GasGas Tech3/KTM), but despite the requirement to complete a minimum of eight laps, not all riders immediately took to the track. Joan Mir (Repsol Honda) followed as the next leader… before Raúl Fernández (Trackhouse Racing/Aprilia) took over.
Within the first ten minutes, Augusto Fernández reclaimed the lead. Enea Bastianini (Ducati) moved up to the front positions, securing third place. Meanwhile, Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GasGas Tech3/KTM) became the new leader. With the wet track, the KTM bikes were proving to be strong, and the rookie was later overtaken by Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM).
Moments later, Augusto Fernández and Acosta regained the lead from Miller. At that point, Marc Márquez (Gresini/Ducati) was fourth… and within the last 20 minutes, he even became the fastest rider.
There were no further changes at the top until the end, with Marc Márquez being the fastest. Augusto Fernández was second, 0.290s behind, followed by Acosta at 0.394s. Miller and Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) completed the top five ahead of Raúl Fernández. Bastianini was the best of the factory Ducati team in seventh, while his teammate Francesco Bagnaia finished only 12th.
