With two consecutive wins, Marc Márquez is in the best phase of his MotoGP season so far – having only missed the top four in a main race three times. This level of competitiveness is something he hasn’t seen since his last championship-winning season.
When asked in a press conference whether this is his most consistent period since the injuries he sustained in 2020, the eight-time world champion confirmed:
– 2021 was not bad, there was a period in Aragon, Austin and Misano that was not bad. But it’s true that with normal conditions like we had in Misano was from 2019 – 2019 was another step.
Márquez elaborated on his current form, acknowledging there’s still room for improvement: ‘I feel that I can play with my body, I start to play more with the bike. There are still some weak points – for example at turn 11/12 Pecco [Bagnaia] is super fast, we need to understand for the next weekend. I will not be faster than him, but if we can be closer to him. There are still some points to discover, but every time when you have more confidence, you are able to play better with the body and be faster’.
