Ducati had to decide on their second MotoGP rider for 2025, and they opted for Marc Márquez, favoring his experience and media appeal.
This decision, however, left Jorge Martín – who has long fought for a spot in Ducati’s factory team over the last few years – overlooked once again. His future now lies with Ducati’s rival, Aprilia.
Casey Stoner, speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, understands Ducati’s decision but doesn’t agree with it: ‘In several ways, I understand the decision, but that doesn’t mean it’s the right one. When you have riders who give their all and stand out among 22 on the track, and then someone comes along and takes their place, I don’t think it’s fair’.
The former rider finds it unjust that Márquez was Ducati’s choice: ‘I think Marc could have had a factory bike with another team; I don’t think it’s fair that he was chosen over Martín or [Enea] Bastianini. Especially Jorge, who has shown what he is capable of and kept improving. He deserves the championship’.
