Marc Márquez and Pedro Acosta mark two distinct generations in MotoGP that today share the track. On Márquez’s side, the admiration is clear and unequivocal, with the Gresini Racing rider seeing himself in the newcomer, to whom he antecipates many years of high level in the category.
The number 93, which will be with the official factory Ducati next year, spoke to Cadena SER and when asked about the rider he most admires and with the most possibilities of doing «something» in the category, and was very clear and had no doubts in his answer: ‘I always said: Pedro Acosta. Everyone was arriving and they were fast. You see it with Pecco [Bagnaia] and [Jorge] Martín, but Pedro Acosta arrives and does different things. At the moment, he still lacks this experience of controlling all situations, but he arrives and does different things. He can mark a era in MotoGP’.
Acosta’s (GASGAS Tech3) last races have not been easy, but Márquez sees a lot of himself in the 20-year-old, remembering his arrival in the category himself: ‘Yes, yes, yes. When I arrived in MotoGP I found Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa and this is now Pedro Acosta, who with patience and calm will do very well’.
As Márquez is an «old love» of KTM, asked if the Ducati option had failed, it would be possible to see him side by side with Acosta, the experienced rider did not want to go into detail on the subject and explained what his priorities were, after of the big change he made from last year to this:
– Out of respect for the brands, I am not going to say either plan B or plan C. I was very clear that my number one priority was a Ducati, because I already made a big change last year, and I didn’t initially feel like making another big change. I wanted to continue where I was or turn red. Those were my two options and I was able to get the one I liked the most, the best
