After Manuel González spent most of the session at the top of the timesheets, Arón Canet ended Practice 1 of the Moto2 San Marino GP with the fastest time.
González (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex) initially led after the first flying laps and reclaimed the top spot on his second attempt following brief stints at the top by Alonso López (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) and Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex).
From there, González improved his time and stayed in the lead for over half an hour, until Canet (Fantic Racing/Kalex) set the fastest time of 1m35.561s, with less than five minutes remaining.
Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) improved to second, just 0.131s behind Canet, while González also bettered his previous time but settled for third, 0.220s behind the leader. Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex), who had led the morning session, finished in fourth.
Albert Arenas (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex) completed the top five. After a heavy crash this morning in the free practice, championship leader Sergio García (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro) managed to ride but only placed 24th, 1.216s off Canet’s pace.
