Romano Albesiano headed to Honda at the end of 2024 to start work on the evolution of the RC213V, where he will also work with LCR boss Lucio Cecchinello. However, although they met at the Japanese manufacturer, the truth is that the path could have been different, at least in the past, with the Italian revealing that the ex-Aprilia driver even invited him… to the Noale manufacturer.
Cecchinello himself made the revelation to GPOne, after being asked if he knew Albesiano: ‘I can’t say that I knew him, because we had the opportunity to meet in the paddock.
And then he explained that the contact he had with Albesiano previously was when he… invited him to join Aprilia: ‘I had two very in-depth conversations with Romano in previous years, because he asked me on two occasions to move to Aprilia’.
Many hopes are pinned on the team’s new technical director, with Cecchinello already warning his compatriot that he will have some problems given the different Japanese philosophy and work culture to the European one.
