Until last year, Luca Marini had the comfort of being in VR46, in a very familiar environment and with one of the best MotoGP bikes – the Ducati. However, he had an offer to replace Marc Márquez at Repsol Honda and accepted the change despite joining a manufacturer that has been less competitive in recent years.
What was the Italian’s motivation for this move? The rider himself explained to the press what led him to choose the Japanese team, stating during the team launch:
– It’s true that Honda is going through a tough time, but I think it’s now starting to recover to return to the top. And it was just this challenge that also gave me the motivation to be here today: because we have a common goal. And I think for a rider, it’s important to compete in a factory team, and this team in particular has always been my goal. I know that now is not the best moment in history, but surely the goal is to get back there. So, the dream, the goal, is very clear for the entire team and for the people working on this project.
