Over the last few years, Jorge Martín has always been among the potential candidates for a seat on the factory Ducati team, but on two occasions he has been passed over: first in 2022 and more recently in 2024.
In an interview with Motosan, the former Honda and Suzuki Team Manager recalled that he had never had the opportunity to work with the new world champion, even though he greatly appreciates his qualities, going as far as to explain that, in his opinion, he had already had a ‘potential’ superior to that of Enea Bastianini for a long time.
– I’ve never worked with him, but I like him a lot. And, to be honest, I think that if I had been at Ducati, I would have chosen him in 2022 for the 2023 and 2024 seasons, because, for some reason, I already thought he had more potential than Enea.
In fact, not being chosen and being passed over for another rider, in this case Marc Márquez, led to Martín leaving the Ducati sphere, as well as Pramac Racing accepting an invitation from Yamaha.
