Yamaha faced a challenging season in MotoGP in 2023, removed from the fight for victories. Even podiums were scarce for the Japanese manufacturer, with only three, all secured by Fabio Quartararo.
The team’s managing director, Massimo Meregalli, admitted to GPOne.com that it was a mentally challenging season: ‘We approached each GP as a new race, fortunately, some podiums emerged and brought excitement. Personally, leaving home weighed on me, thinking that unless something particular happened, it would be another difficult weekend’.
According to the Italian, Yamaha adopted a new approach in the final phase of the year: ‘However, at the end of the season, we started trying something new for the next season. We also took risks because Yamaha wasn’t used to giving the riders new things that the test riders hadn’t tested yet. We had nothing to lose, and we tried to anticipate something, and in the end, there were some improvements in the last races’.
