David Muñoz will start the GP of the Americas from pole position, after a final and late attack earned him the start in first position in tomorrow’s race. Maximo Quiles still dreamed of pole position but ended up almost being taken by storm and had to settle for second place.
After Joel Kelso (2:14.667s) led the quartet of riders who went through to Q2, including Guido Pini, Dennis Foggia and Stefano Nepa, it remains to be seen who will take pole position for the GP of the Americas in the MotoGP beginner category.
With two minutes of qualifying gone, out of a total of 15, Mattelo Bertelle – one of the favorites for pole position – crashed on the Texan track but fortunately without serious injury and resumed action shortly afterwards. Less than two minutes later it was David Almansa who recorded his fourth crash this weekend, with Bertelle once again going to the ground.
It's getting tricky out there! @DavidAlmansa22 goes down and Bertelle crashes out again!

And if the competitive times had just arrived now, with Jose Antonio Rueda leading the session with a lap in 2:14.588s, ahead of Kelso as his closest rival, the negative highlights were Riccardo Rossi and Scott Ogden who fell practically at the same time but in different circumstances and separately.
Separate crashes too for @ScottOgden19 and @riccardorossi54

The session quickly reached its halfway point and with turn 8 adding more falls, as on the lap Rueda also fell in that area of the circuit.
Meanwhile, with two minutes to go, Álvaro Carpe moved up to second place and, just behind, Bertelle – who had suffered two crashes – moved up to fourth.
In the final moments, Maximo Quiles seemed to secure pole position with a lap of 2:14.532s, but there were still some riders left to finish, with the sectors in red and, unsurprisingly, David Muñoz confirmed the best time of the session, thus securing pole position for the GP of the Americas!
