Augusto Fernández made his MotoGP debut this year, finishing in 17th place. The GasGas Tech3 rider faced the inherent challenges of adaptation and other difficulties, yet consistently scored points, achieving his best result with a fourth-place finish in France. KTM was pleased with his campaign, and the team’s sporting director, Pit Beirer, expects even better from Fernández in 2024.
Speaking to SPEEDWEEK.com, Beirer summarized #37’s season: ‘With Augusto, we experienced the second halves of the races in 2023, where he was doing the lap times of the top three. In other areas, we will support Augusto so he can further improve there. He just has to carry on as normal, and the improvements we expect will naturally come. He did the job in 2023 extremely well for a rookie. We believe in him and are confident he will continue to improve in 2024’.
After a season where Fernández was under pressure due to uncertainty about his place in 2024, Beirer believes the Spanish rider will deliver strong performances in the upcoming season: ‘Let’s not forget that last summer he was under contract pressure because it was uncertain if he would remain in MotoGP. The pressure on the rider still has its challenges. But Augusto will stabilize and achieve good results next year’ .
