Jorge Martín lost a potential victory on the penultimate lap of the German MotoGP GP when he crashed while leading, handing the win to his main rival in the title fight, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati).
This is the second time a similar situation has happened to the Spaniard this year, following the Spanish GP. Prima Pramac team manager Gino Borsoi commented on the incident to AS:
– These are races, and these things have happened many times and are part of the nature of racing, especially when you’re running at such a high pace as we are this year. Here, it was seen again that Jorge and Pecco are a step ahead. The race was on the edge, with times bordering on the impossible, especially due to managing the rear tire. In the last laps, he was having some problems and some scares with the rear, because the tire was already at its limit.
Although it is ultimately Martín who rides and controls the bike, Borsoi admitted that the mistake was collective: ‘These are things that can happen, but it’s a bit everyone’s fault, the team’s and mine, because we have to find a way to help him in these situations where you almost have the race in your pocket and then what happens happens. We all have to help each other so that these things don’t happen anymore, because we are fighting for the championship and every point is important’.
