Jorge Martin once again left it all on the track and beat everyone and everything at Losail to take victory in the Sprint race. After a positive start, he ended up making a mistake, but once he got his rhythm going, there was no one left to challenge the Pramac rider.
In his post-race analysis, the #89 began by talking about his start: ‘I thought I’d be strong, I thought I had the potential to win but you never know in a race. I practised the starts all weekend and finally it went well but then I went wide and found myself behind Marc [Marquez] and Pecco [Bagnaia] and I had to find my way between them and that wasn’t easy, they are incredible riders’.
Then Martin realised that his pace was better than his opponents’ and attacked: ‘I saw that, even managing the rear tyre, I could catch all the riders and then overtake them and as soon as I started to set my pace I was super strong. At the end [Fabio] DiGia was coming and I saw that we were separated by two tenths and I decided to push a little harder to win, which was super important’.
The focus is now on sunday’s long race, where Martin wants to repeat what he did today: ‘We recovered points, which is always very good, and tomorrow is the big day and I hope we can recover more’.
