Jorge Martín finished the MotoGP Austrian GP in second place in the championship standings, just five points behind leader Francesco Bagnaia. Despite securing pole position with a record-breaking lap, Martín couldn’t outpace the Italian in the races at Spielberg.
Óscar Haro, former director of LCR Honda, commented on Nico Abad’s YouTube channel, expressing that Martín faces a tougher challenge this season in battling Bagnaia for the title:
– Jorge frustrated me because the psychological mistake he made on Saturday cost him the lead, and I see it affected him. I notice that the strong point Jorge had, which he showed by taking that pole position on Saturday, being 0.7s faster than last year. I think at this moment, Jorge sees Pecco harder than last year.
Although only five points separate the two at the top, Bagnaia has been the stronger rider, with five wins in the last six rounds. Martín has consistently appeared on the podium, but he has already retired twice and has only two main race wins.
