Due to the impact of storm Dana, the MotoGP Valencia GP seems at serious risk of not taking place. Nothing is confirmed yet, with two rounds remaining and the title still in contention. Jorge Martín leads the championship, 17 points ahead of Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati).
The Prima Pramac rider expressed support for those affected by the storm, stating in a press conference: ‘I just want to send all my support to everyone from Spain, from Valencia, my country. This massive storm was impressive, with really bad news this morning – also yesterday. So, I want to send all the support’.
Regarding whether the Valencia GP will go forward, Martín explained that the ideal would be to know as soon as possible: ‘I think it’s a really difficult situation, for sure for the people over there. But also for us; the best thing would be to know right now, to know it today. Then, we would approach the weekend in a different way’.
The Spaniard has doubts that the event at Circuit Ricardo Tormo can go ahead as planned: ‘I think Valencia will be difficult, because even if the track is solved and everything is good, it’s a difficult situation – I think just out of respect for the people over there. Also, in terms of logistics – I don’t know how exactly is the track, so maybe we can’t have a full crowd. So, at the end of the day it will be difficult. I think the best option would be to race elsewhere, but I think Dorna and MotoGP will do the best thing and will make the best choice, for sure’.
Asked about which circuit could replace Valencia, the #89 replied: ‘It’s really difficult for me to say a track at the moment. Valencia would be perfect, because I think it’s the best track to do the last race, but it’s impossible – or maybe it’s possible, I don’t know. Let’s wait. For sure, I don’t want to go to Assen – Pecco is always strong there’.
