Marc Márquez had his first (official) round with the Ducati in MotoGP this past weekend and with positive results, especially on a track that is not one of his favourites. Jorge Lorenzo paid close attention to the performance of his compatriot and former Honda teammate, and he liked what he saw.
The former rider spoke about the #93’s race to DAZN, quoted by Motosan, and confessed that he saw Márquez enjoying himself and being very lucid in the way he managed the events: ‘How he managed the weekend, the races, in a very intelligent way, knowing his limits and having fun with the bike, which hasn’t happened for a long time’.
Even so, Lorenzo emphasised the difference between the Gresini Racing rider’s bike (GP23) and the latest version: ‘I was a bit shocked by the difference in speed with [Jorge] Martín’s bike on the finishing straight, which I didn’t see on Saturday, but on Sunday it was clear that he was missing those two or three tenths’.
As for what Márquez ‘lacked to win’, Lorenzo recalled that this is not the circuit of choice for the Spaniard: ‘I don’t know why, what did he lack to win? The circuit also had an influence, in Qatar you don’t win many races here’.
