Pedro Acosta continues to amaze and in this MotoGP long race his impact continued to be clear, with the rider even coming to be at fourth place after overtaking Marc Márquez. However later on he had issues with the tyre management and ended up losing some positions, something that Jorge Lorenzo considers to be normal due to his lack of experience.
The former rider is with DAZN as commentator and gave his opinion on the race from the rookie: ‘It has made us emotional. He did what he had to do; he took risks and put his head out for the first time in MotoGP. The lack of experience with the tyres and with the physique, he will explain it, meant that he couldn’t maintain that level until the end. But hey, fast race lap’.
The difference from Moto2 to MotoGP is huge, he continued: ‘That’s when you realise that in the category where he is, that’s a big word in every sense of the word. You have to be very careful because the bikes are very big, the inertias are bigger and there he had an important scare. […]. I think that in terms of tyres there can’t be a big difference with the others. He might have used it more because he pushed a lot in those laps, but I don’t think he was much worse’.
For Lorenzo the rider needs more time in the category: ‘It’s clear that Pedro has done very few tests with this bike, he’s not used to riding this bike with tyres that are screaming for the race to be over. That makes him ride very tense as we have seen in the corner entries and changes of direction that physically asked for a little ‘relaxation’ for the arms. He paid for it with a riding style that wasn’t what it was in the middle of the race’.
