Joan Mir competes this weekend in the Japanese GP, which is the home round for his MotoGP team – Repsol Honda. At Motegi, he looks to confirm the progress made in Misano, which did not carry over to the Indonesian GP.
The 2020 world champion commented: ‘In the end I’m always happy to always come to Japan, because it’s like a home GP for me every year that I come, because I’ve always been with Japanese manufacturers, so it’s always very nice to come here, spend one week, and I always feel loved by the Japanese fans’.
Motegi is a track with different characteristics compared to Mandalika and Misano – the previous two on the calendar – and Mir believes it is ideal to assess the potential of the latest RC213V updates:
– I also think it’s important to see… what we tried at Misano test, we could match a bit in the race there, but for some reason in Mandalika I couldn’t put everything together to exploit the real potential of this bike, which we have at the moment with these new upgrades. So I think this track is good to do it, it’s also good to compare with last year, let’s see how it is. I want to jump on the bike tomorrow.
