In less than a month, Aleix Espargaró will retire from MotoGP – as he announced back in September, he will leave the sport at the end of the season after many years in the premier class.
After his result at Phillip Island, the Aprilia rider rejected the notion that he’s slowing down in his final season, highlighting his accomplishments in 2024:
– It’s not fair to only look at the last two races. You have to see the full picture: I am still tenth in the championship, I’ve had a couple of podiums in Sprints, two or three poles this season. Even in my final year, I’m showing a very good speed.
Currently tenth in the standings, Espargaró has faced some challenges to consistently be the top Aprilia rider, but he remains a regular top-ten contender. He has also won a Sprint race at the Catalan GP and secured podiums in the Saturday Sprint races at the British and Austrian GPs.
