Marc Márquez arrives at Gresini this year, and with him piloting a Ducati, there are high expectations surrounding him. It’s also the first time in his career that he won’t be riding a Honda since entering MotoGP in 2013.
For now, the Spanish rider refuses to discuss his expectations and goals in terms of specific results. Quoted by the Marca newspaper at a sponsor event, the six-time premier class champion explained:
– I think it would be a mistake to start with a goal or a realistic expectation. Because an expectation now would have to be high. If not, I would be deceiving you. You can’t set an expectation, and even less manifest it, because then the level of frustration can be high. So, as I’ve said so far, I made this change to try to smile inside the helmet, to feel those ‘butterflies’ again when going to a Grand Prix.
Nevertheless, Márquez didn’t hide his ambition to fight at the front… admitting, however, that he doesn’t know if that will be possible consistently: ‘Of course, I would like to be fighting at the top positions, but we’ll see if it’s sporadic, if I can be consistently up there, if I can’t… We have a pre-season ahead where there is a lot of work to do’.
