Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. and Yamaha Motor Racing have enthusiastically announced the addition of Augusto Fernández to their team. The experienced MotoGP rider will take on the role of official test rider for the Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP Test Team in the 2025 season, and if the announcement was to be expected for a long time, the confirmation just came today.
With two years of MotoGP experience (2023-2024) and six seasons in Moto2 (2017-2022), where he clinched the Moto2 World Championship title in 2022, Fernández is a well-established figure in motorsport and a familiar presence in the MotoGP paddock.
Starting with the upcoming MotoGP shakedown test in Sepang, Malaysia, scheduled from 31 January to 2 February, Augusto Fernández will embark on his new role as a test rider, riding the YZR-M1.
Throughout 2025, the Spanish rider will participate in official IRTA tests, Yamaha private tests, and several wildcard events. His primary goal will be to contribute to Yamaha’s MotoGP bike development programme, working closely with the team’s engineers.
Augusto Fernández couldn’t be happier with his future: ‘I am very happy and super excited to join Yamaha as a test rider for 2025. It’s a huge honour to be part of the Yamaha family, and I want to thank everyone who made this happen. In this amazing new project, I will do my best to help Yamaha get back to where they deserve to be. I can’t wait to start our journey together!’.
