Even before Marc Marquez and Honda made the spanish star’s departure for Gresini official, one of the most talked about names to strengthen the japanese manufacturer was… Gigi Dall’Igna. The ‘mastermind’ behind the development of the Desmosedici revealed that there had indeed been some talks but that it wouldn’t make sense to change at this point, after working so hard to bring Ducati to the point it has reached.
‘Let’s say it’s something that’s probably normal in a situation like this, we’ve had some conversations. I feel good at Ducati. I’ve worked hard to get to a situation where I’m considered a reference for everyone else, so leaving at this point wouldn’t have been logical’ said the Geral Manager of Ducati Corse in a conversation with motorcyclenews.com, who also considered that the main part of his work with Ducati was done, or at least a good part of it, although he recognised the ‘challenge’ it would be to do something similar for Honda:
– It’s true that I did what I had to do here at Ducati and it could have been a challenge overcome and shelved. I’m sure Honda is an equally interesting and important challenge, but I think it’s logical to continue here after all the hard work.
