Franco Morbidelli achieved his best result of the MotoGP season this Saturday, finishing third in the Sprint race at the San Marino GP. Earlier, he had secured second place in qualifying at Misano.
Yesterday, the Prima Pramac rider had stated that he felt capable of fighting for these kinds of results, and he delivered, staying close to the rivals who finished ahead of him – teammate Jorge Martín and Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati):
– I’m not a liar, and I’m happy that I could back up my word. I had a good start, and I could stay with the group – with the top two guys – since the beginning. And I could check them out very well. There are some areas where I’m missing, but we will try to improve for tomorrow.
Although the Sprint race doesn’t have the media attention or the length of the main race, Morbidelli stressed that it still holds significant value: ‘The Sprint race is a race where the riders give all their potential for 14 laps, they take all the potential from the tyres, all the potential from the bike. So for me it has a great value, and especially this kind of Sprint race where the top two guys were on their prime, giving their maximum. It was great to stay there’.
