Next Tuesday, Miguel Oliveira begins a new chapter in his MotoGP career as he joins Prima Pramac, which will become Yamaha’s satellite team.
Jorge Viegas, president of the FIM, spoke to SportTV about the Portuguese rider’s move, predicting a bright future: ‘I told Miguel today [Saturday] that he Is going to what I consider, perhaps, the best team because Pramac is a fantastic team. It has an amazing group of technicians, and I’m quite close to the owner of Pramac [Paolo Campinoti]. So, Miguel is in very good hands’.
The federation official believes Oliveira will thrive with the Italian team: ‘Miguel is a rider who needs to feel comfortable with the team he is in. He didn’t feel comfortable at KTM, he felt very good with Hervé Poncharal at Tech3, and he doesn’t feel good at Trackhouse. I’m convinced he will feel good at Pramac, and when he feels good, he wins races – at least that has been the case. Now, everything depends on what Yamaha provides him’.
Regarding the atmosphere within Pramac, Jorge Viegas added: ‘It has a fantastic environment. I’ve been with them several times, and it’s nothing like other teams that are official but operate with a very different modus operandi’.
