Augusto Fernández has not yet been officially confirmed as Yamaha’s test rider, but the secret is becoming increasingly hard to keep. In fact, for Fernández himself, it’s no longer a secret.
In an interview with the official MotoGP website, the Spaniard, who raced for GasGas Tech3 over the past two seasons, all but confirmed that he will join the Iwata manufacturer:
– I’m close to stay around, riding a MotoGP bike with Yamaha. So, I’ll be a test rider with them. I’m looking forward, I’m happy. It’s just a different part of my career, but I’m not done for sure. I’m very happy to be with them and I’m very looking forward to start working.
As for why he chose to become Yamaha’s test rider, Fernández explained: ‘I think I have much more to give to this sport and to MotoGP. That’s why I chose this option to stay close to MotoGP, to continue riding a MotoGP bike with Yamaha, with a huge project ahead. So, I’m very happy to be with them, and can’t wait to start this new chapter’.
