Jack Miller fell far short of the desired performance at the Qatar MotoGP Grand Prix. The Red Bull KTM rider left Losail without points, finishing 21st in the main race – last among those who crossed the finish line.
The Australian spoke of a very problematic race in which he couldn’t maintain the necessary pace: ‘Not the way I wanted to start, but it is what it is. It can only improve from there. I got away to a good start again and then got stuffed in the second-last corner by DiGia [Fabio Di Giannantonio]. And then those boys were running a little deep into turn 1. I tried to hold a tighter line, and the front went away. That was a part of it, but afterwards I picked up the bike and the bike was straight, and I was pushing. But honestly I was just missing something in the race. The grip level or something… I was unable to run even remotely close to the pace that we need. So a little bit to head-scratch, we will try to understand what went wrong and try to improve for Portimão. It’s not the way we wanted to start, but that’s the way it is’.
Despite resolving the issues that affected him in the Sprint race, Miller admitted that there were other shortcomings and it’s necessary to analyze the situation thoroughly in order to try to correct them: ‘I solved the problems from Saturday with the wheelie and everything, but we have some other ones. Whether or not it was just for Sunday, we’ve got something there for sure. There isn’t so much to say. I tried to push my maximum every lap until the end, but I was far too slow. Anytime I tried to push I was losing the front, anytime I tried to push too hard on the exit I was losing the rear. I wasn’t able to keep the grip all the way through. So like I said we’ll try to analyze the data, understand what went wrong and try to fix it’.
