Jorge Martín finished the first day of the Malaysian GP in 2nd position, six places ahead of the reigning champion and his direct rival for the MotoGP world championship, Francesco Bagnaia, in 8th position.
The Spanish rider spoke about the sensations of the first day and his outlook for the rest of the weekend in Malaysia.
– ‘ I felt competitive in the morning and very strong in the afternoon. I was competitive and managed to set some impressive times for a Friday, so let’s see how we develop tomorrow. The track is better than when previous pre-season tests were carried out, with fewer bumps in the asphalt, so I think they’ve done a good job there.
Asked about Alex Márquez’s good pace and whether the only idea would be to stay ahead of Francesco Bagnaia, Martín replied: ‘ I’m not worried about the gap to Alex, it’s two tenths. I just need to be in the top 10 to get through to Q2 and today I made a few mistakes on my attack laps, so I think I have a surprise in my pocket for tomorrow, but I’m sure the other riders have something in store for tomorrow too. We have to keep our feet on the ground and make sure we’re faster than Pecco’.
