Marc Márquez suffered a crash in the final moments of the MotoGP Portuguese Grand Prix practice session. It was the first major incident for the rider with the Gresini Ducati, although it didn’t have significant consequences.
At the end of the day, the Spanish rider explained what happened, starting by stating: ‘We did a small change on the bike, it gave me more confidence. If you have more confidence, you are able to push more and step-by-step we need to go on that way. On the crash for example I was on the last time attack. When I was behind somebody with Honda I felt better, with Ducati at the moment I feel worse. So is there where I try to manage in a different way. I lost the rear on the entry, it was a strange crash. But in the end I did a mistake, I need to analyze well. I think I know why I crashed and it was my mistake’.
According to Márquez, the instinct he still has from his many years with Honda may have contributed: ‘When you do the time attack, my instinct arrives. And then I was used to go super fast on the apex with Honda, with some slide. With this bike you need to ride in a different way – the potential is in another areas. But on that braking point I had the shaking on the first part and then I saw I was too fast, but I tried to go in with that instinct, with some slide. But now I know I can’t’.
