During a recent interview at the presentation event for the new R 20 concept, BMW Motorrad CEO Markus Flasch shared his thoughts on the future of BMW electric motorcycles, highlighting the company’s strategy to lead the transformation to sustainable mobility. Markus Flasch emphasized that BMW Motorrad is committed to developing electric motorcycles that maintain the spirit of innovation and performance that defines the brand.
One of the main points addressed was the launch of the BMW CE 04, an electric scooter that combines futuristic design with cutting-edge technology. This model is just the start of BMW’s ambitious range of electric products. Markus Flasch revealed that the company is working on a complete range of electric motorcycles, including more powerful and performance-oriented models.
‘There is a logical and an emotional side to the response. The logical side is that when you look at the facts and figures of the [Vision DC Roadster], its development was quite mature. But it was by no means competitive with a model like the M 1000 RR’.
‘And then we looked at the way the business is going, as well as the competitors, we have 77 % of the total electric motorcycle market with our CE 04 and CE 02 electric scooters. So why would I invest BMW’s money to build a bike to get into the remaining 23%? It doesn’t make sense. Not now, maybe later. And the emotional part is that if you talk to users, I haven’t found anyone who says ‘I’d spend 30,000 euros on an electric bike to go around the lake or up the mountain’.
