After an exemplary start to the season, Jorge Martín crashed at the Jerez GP while leading Sunday’s race. This crash put his rival Francesco Bagnaia just 17 points behind.
Jorge Martín’s sporting director and coach, Fonsi Nieto, commented on the Spanish rider’s performance to Diario AS.
– There’s absolutely nothing to blame when you crash when you’re in first place and trying to win the race at home. We got up and kept working. Did we want to win at Jerez? Yes. Did we do it on Saturday? Yes, like a champion, in a very difficult race. I have nothing to criticize Jorge for other than continuing to take my hat off to him for what he’s doing. At Jerez we all want to win, but only one of us does.
He added: ‘It doesn’t take Jorge long to turn the page. He was really upset, but within half an hour he was asking for the guys’ attention. What I like about Jorge is that he pushes the team.
