Maverick Viñales has chosen to leave Aprilia for KTM Tech3 in 2025, shifting from the stability of a team he joined about three years ago to the uncertainties of a new project in MotoGP with a different bike.
The Spaniard told the official championship website that the prospect of becoming the only rider in history to win with four different manufacturers is enticing: ‘I think I can be the only one in history to win with four [different] bikes. Obviously this is a really good objective’.
It was in 2015 that Viñales made his MotoGP debut with Suzuki, where he won his first race in the premier class at the 2016 British GP. He moved to Yamaha in 2017 and won on his debut, while his time with Aprilia saw him wait around two and a half years between the 2021 Aragon GP and the 2024 GP of the Americas for a win.
Despite the ambitious goal, the rider acknowledges that it’s a risk he’s taking, and he is not afraid: ‘What I did is a gamble, but I believe in myself, and my instincts told that, I go for it, I have no fear’.
