A new reality from China called Naxeon is appearing for the first time on the Western market, but it would be more accurate to say globally, with a product that is original enough to catch our eye, but not too strange or far removed from our tastes and expectations. The bike is called I AM, literally “I am” in English.
Naxeon was founded in 2021 in ChongQing, an industrial “city” with a population of just 32 million, on the initiative of Gang Mu, who, after leaving the presidency of Lifan, gathered around him a team of around twenty professionals with the aim of building a range of innovative vehicles dedicated to travel and entertainment and characterized by a global approach. That’s why he immediately began collaborating with the Milanese company E-Quilibrium, already established among Chinese car manufacturers, to support its entry into the European market. And it is precisely Naxeon’s current presence on the Old Continent that E-Quilibrium is working on: at the time of writing, it has already signed distribution agreements in France and Belgium, and is about to do so in Germany.
The progenitor model of these products is precisely the compact I AM, a city bike with 17″ wheels and an engine capable of developing a peak power of 10 kW and a torque of 273 Nm, which allows it to reach 120 km/h and do so quite quickly, going from 0-50 in 2.8 seconds and 0-80 in 6.5 seconds. An interesting performance that places it – at least on paper – among the best in the 125 e-bike segment. But beyond speed and acceleration, there’s much more, because this bike’s battery is a semi-solid unit that offers greater energy density and faster charging (+30%) than a similar conventional battery and a longer life cycle. It is also lighter. It is offered in two capacities of 4.3 and 6.5 kWh for ranges between 120 and 180 km, which is enough for daily commuting. The good news doesn’t stop there: the I AM is equipped with a fast charger with a Type 2 socket, which is currently rare in this market segment and only exclusive to high-end products. The result? Naxeon claims that it can recharge from 20% to 80% in an hour and a half. The weight varies between 118 and 130 kg, depending (we assume) on the battery. There’s no shortage of technological benefits. In addition to ABS, TCS and TERS, of course, the LED lights are literally endless, since in addition to the front and rear lights, there are also… side lights along the entire silhouette of the bike. In addition, the circular lights on the handlebars follow our actions, changing color if we accelerate or decelerate. There are also front and rear cameras and, at the back, a proximity sensor to monitor the blind spot. The 7-inch color screen is touch-sensitive and shows us not only the usual information, but also what the cameras are recording and, of course, it connects to the smartphone and the app to manage it. The ignition is keyless and, in addition, the bike has a sensor that detects when the rider is driving and is able to recognize him and activate the configured profile. There’s also one to make parking easier and an anti-theft audio and light system that activates when the bike is moved. The most attentive will not have missed the particular architecture of the front end with a fully armored parallelogram suspension, a real rarity that also gives this I AM a very forward line and a sporty character.
