Alberto Puig has been one of Honda’s key figures in MotoGP and doesn’t hide his admiration for Pedro Acosta, opening the doors of the Japanese manufacturer to the rider, who many call the “new” Marc Márquez.
In recent statements to AS, Puig looked at the rider’s evolution and how he has demonstrated his potential, if there were any doubts: ‘He started very well and it is very logical that he has had ups and downs. It is very difficult in this category, to understand the tires and the rivals, but his talent is more than proven. It is only a matter of time until this process of ups and downs is completed’.
In 2025, the year he will join the KTM factory team, Acosta will certainly show growth, he said with conviction: ‘Next year, we will see a much more mature Acosta, who knows his limits and those of his bike. He is now realizing what this bike is. When you arrive in MotoGP, you get a beast that impresses, and as you test, fall, and experiment, you say that this is it. And he now knows what he can do with that bike compared to the others’.
For the manager, the bike is becoming increasingly important, much more so than before: ‘The bike has become a much more important part of the bike than it was ten years ago’.
And he left a certainty about the future and the one who could become a target for HRC: ‘It will depend on him. If he ever wants to be with Honda, he will be with Honda’.
