The Memphis Grizzlies continue to prove they are one of the NBA’s most resilient teams, storming back from a 16-point deficit to defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves 108-106 on Monday. With their fourth win in five games, Memphis sits comfortably in third place in the Western Conference at 28-15.
While Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards lit up the scoreboard with 32 points and Naz Reid poured in 29 off the bench, the Grizzlies relied on team basketball and two-way excellence from Jaren Jackson Jr. to secure the hard-fought victory.
Jackson shines with All-Star-level performance
Jackson led the Grizzlies with 24 points, 11 rebounds, and a game-high +24 in the narrow win. The 2022-23 NBA Defensive Player of the Year has been the cornerstone of Memphis’ success this season, leading the team in scoring, steals, and blocks while anchoring their defensive efforts.
His consistent two-way dominance has not gone unnoticed by teammate Ja Morant, who made an emphatic case for Jackson’s inclusion in the 2025 All-Star Game.
“I think it’s no question,” Morant said of Jackson’s All-Star campaign. “Any other time, they base it off seeding and all that… but all that goes out the window when it comes to us. Yeah, I’m pushing for him to be an All-Star. I think he absolutely deserves it. He’s been playing at an All-NBA level if we’re actually being honest. He got us in the position we’re in now. One of the most healthiest guys on the team, he brings it every night on both ends.”
Building the case for Jackson
Jackson earned an All-Star nod during the 2022-23 season, a year in which he also claimed the Defensive Player of the Year award. While his name hasn’t been in the spotlight as much this season, his numbers and impact remain undeniable. Jackson’s ability to dominate on both ends of the floor has kept Memphis in contention despite injuries to key players like Morant.
In Monday’s win, Jackson’s defensive presence was pivotal, as the Grizzlies rallied to outscore the Timberwolves by 17 in the second half.
Fan support and national recognition
The latest fan returns for NBA All-Star voting placed Jackson 10th among Western Conference frontcourt players. However, strong performances like Monday’s comeback win against a division rival on a national stage could bolster his All-Star campaign.
As the Grizzlies continue their climb in the standings, Jackson’s contributions will remain vital, making a strong case for him to join the league’s elite in the 2025 NBA All-Star Game.
