There is speculation that Toprak Razgatlioglu might move to MotoGP as early as 2025, with his manager Kenan Sofuoglu ensuring that ROKiT BMW has been informed of this desire. Other rumors suggest he might enter the premier class with the Bavarian manufacturer in 2027 – which Giulio Nava believes would not be the best option.
Álvaro Bautista’s chief engineer in the Superbike World Championship used Marc Márquez’s move to Gresini as an example, emphasizing that the Spaniard didn’t start from scratch nor with uncertainties despite not knowing the bike: ‘In my opinion, there are big differences. I mean, Marc had a period where he had some problems, he went to a bike that in any case helped him because the bike was not a question mark; he just had to focus on learning to ride it – or getting used to riding it. He did it and performs well. But Marc comes from that world, Marc grew up there. […]. Ok, MotoGP has evolved compared to 2013, which was his first year there, but it’s not night and day. And Marc arrived at 20 years old’.
Regarding Razgatlioglu, Nava explained that entering MotoGP with BMW wouldn’t provide the assurances and guarantees that would be ideal in a debut year:
– Toprak, if he were to go there in 2027, would be older than he is now. If he gets there with BMW, as it’s true what I said about Marc earlier, you go there with a question mark in the sense that if you go to a Ducati now, you know what you have; if you went to a Honda like Marc in 2013, you knew what you had. That is, you had the bike there at that moment – I don’t want to say it’s the best on the grid – but a top bike that worked at that moment, where more or less all the riders on it were able to express a certain level of performance. […]. If you go to a new bike, that is, you have to learn the category, you don’t know the level of the product you have in your hands… in my opinion, it’s not that simple.
The Italian also said: ‘That is, I would see it much easier for someone like him, if he wants to go to MotoGP, to be on a bike where the first step is to focus on himself, learn to ride it, but not question it. But if you go to a bike for the first year, you have to understand how you have to ride it and at the same time every time you enter the garage you have «X» people in front of you asking: «But the engine, but the gearbox, but the frame». It’s not the best scenario to start, you understand. That is, with the limitations he has’.
