Since the extent of KTM AG’s financial troubles became known, there has always been an assurance that the MotoGP project would remain secure. However, strong doubts have now emerged.
The AKV, an independent creditors’ protection agency, released information regarding the Austrian company’s creditors’ meeting held this past Friday in an Austrian court.
Among the restructuring measures already implemented by the self-administered debtor, it states: ‘To reduce costs, an exit from MotoGP/Moto3/Moto2 is planned’.
No specific timeline has been announced. Additionally, the phrasing does not make it entirely clear whether the MotoGP project itself is at risk or if it pertains solely to the Moto2 and Moto3 programs.
In the intermediate Moto2 class, KTM is a partner of Ajo but does not manufacture bikes. Meanwhile, in Moto3, KTM produces its own chassis, supplied to several teams – including Ajo.
