Jorge Martín’s Friday at the San Marino MotoGP GP had contrasting aspects. The rider was third in the afternoon session in Misano, having to gradually regain the very good feelings he had in the first free practice session in the morning.
The Spaniard from Prima Pramac talked about a contrasting day between the two sessions, in which he struggled with the soft tyre: ‘It was really good in the morning, I felt incredibly in the morning. I couldn’t believe how fast I was, everything was perfect. Not a lot of times everything goes that good. Then I didn’t touch the bike, and then in the afternoon with the soft [tyre] I started to have a lot of problems to stop the bike. I was really in trouble to keep this constant 1m31s. Then we started to make changes and changes, and every time I went on track was a bit better. So finally I was able to make 1m31.5s with 18 laps in the soft, so this is really good – I’m pleased about that. But I’m not super confident about the soft rear, I feel much better with the medium. So tomorrow it’s time to understand which tyre is the best for both races’.
Martín then explained: ‘When I brake I struggle to slide. I’m sliding a bit, but straightaway is coming back and is pushing a lot. Turn 1, Turn 10 were really difficult, also Turn 8. I was crashing, it’s not that I couldn’t stop, it was pushing a lot. It was really difficult and we were like taking grip out of the tyre trying to put the spring on the rear really stiff. We were making good changes, in a good direction’.
The current championship leader thinks that the MotoGP lap record at Misano will be broken on Saturday: ‘In time attack you always have something extra. Today in the second stint, that I had some yellow flags, I struggled to get into the rhythm, but I was coming better, but I made two mistakes. So I think tomorrow we will beat the lap record for sure. The grip is incredible, and every lap is even better’.
