Fermín Aldeguer will make his MotoGP debut in 2025 with Gresini Racing. The team, known for working with rookies, is aiming to ease the pressure on their newest rider.
Frankie Carchedi, who will serve as his crew chief, explained to Crash.net that the expectations revolve around consistent progress, avoiding drastic fluctuations in performance and results:
– I’ve always said with previous riders, and it will be exactly the same with Fermín: for me, it’s always about an upward progression. So, if you finish 20th in the first race, but you improve every race and at the end of the year you are touching the podium or better, or I don’t know… But if every race is better, then you’ve achieved your goal and the next year you’re ready. If you do a sort of up-and-down… it’s great maybe to get a podium in fifth or sixth race, but then you finish 20th in the race after because it’s not working.
Recalling the example of Fabio Di Giannantonio, the team’s most recent rookie, Carchedi believes Aldeguer should follow a similar trajectory: ‘It was an upward trend, and it will be exactly the same with Fermín. […]. There’s no pressure. […]. I expect he will be more competitive throughout the year every race – not, «oh, this is a good track, this is a bad track». It will be more of an updward trend’.
