In the first lap of the MotoGP Portuguese Grand Prix, Franco Morbidelli had a collision with Joan Mir – coming out worse from the incident as he fell and was out of the fight for a good result despite being able to continue the race.
The Spaniard from Repsol Honda was asked if his Prima Pramac rival should have been penalized. In response, Mir stated: ‘Yes. Well, he crashed, so he was penalized. If not, yes, but if he crashed… He doesn’t want to crash, so this is the penalty he got’.
Mir finished the race in 12th position despite the significant damage to his bike. As for Morbidelli, he crossed the finish line alone in 18th place, over 52 seconds behind the winner and roughly 12 seconds behind the immediate rival ahead.
