There’s always room for improvement in MotoGP, there’s constant evolution, and not even the two-time (consecutive) world champion is free from this path, with he himself admitting that there’s one aspect in which he has to improve more than all the others: crashes.
The world champion has suffered a few crashes that have served as a confidence boost for Jorge Martín, and he has said more than once that this is something he needs to change, but not only that, as he explained in a press conference, with the mental aspect also deserving some emphasis: ‘I’d like to improve on the level I had at the start of the season last year. At the start I was always competitive and after Barcelona I lost some of that competitiveness. I had those good feelings again towards the end of the season, in the last three or four races, but I think it’s something I need to improve. That’s where it’s at’.
Still, it’s the crashes that he wants to see the most evolution in, by having less and less: ‘The crashes… It’s something we don’t know, I hope I don’t crash during the races and I was with [Franco] Morbidelli and Maverick [Viñales] among the riders that crashed the least, seven in the season, but the problem for me is that five of those seven were in races, and I think that’s something I have to improve on’.
