Fabio Quartararo finished the Australian GP in ninth position and after a year of a lot of irregularity, uncertainty and under-performance, the Yamaha rider was once again surprised, this time for the better.
The former world champion began by recalling that in the race he still had some difficulties due to problems raising the temperature of his bike’s rear tire: ‘It was a good pace. I think the second half of the race was very good, even though in the first half I almost had a highside about five or six times: there was a part of the tire that was never prepared and I was always losing the rear of the bike in a very aggressive way’.
And he explained that this is something that has to be analyzed, even though in the end everything went quite well: ‘We have to improve in this area because in Mandalika and here we had a lot of trouble warming up the tire at the start and here that never happens. We have to understand why, but I can be happy with the last ten laps, which were especially nice.
And there are lessons to be learned from Phillip Island, he said: ‘To be honest I didn’t expect to be that fast at the end, because basically in the time attack on Friday I went 1:28.4s and with 26 laps on the tire I did 1:28.2s. I didn’t expect to be so fast, and I think we have some things to see and learn from this race.
