This morning in Mugello, the free practice session for the Moto2 Italian GP took place. Fermín Aldeguer was the fastest, thanks to a sequence of fast laps about five minutes before the end.
After the first flying laps, Alonso López (MB Conveyors SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) was leading, but the times improved significantly in these initial minutes and the leadership changed constantly.
Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex), Darryn Binder (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP/Kalex), wildcard Mattia Pasini (Team Ciatti Boscoscuro), and Manuel González all took turns at the top. It was the Spaniard from QJMotor Gresini who managed to consolidate the lead, holding it for almost 20 minutes until he was beaten by Arbolino.
The Italian was soon overtaken by Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex). And, about three minutes later, Aldeguer took the lead. He improved on his next lap to set the session’s reference time: 1m51.311s.
Chantra remained in second, just 0.069s behind, with Arbolino in third. CFMoto Inde Aspar completed the top five with Jake Dixon in fourth and Izan Guevara in fifth. Championship leader Sergio García (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro) was only 17th, 1.178s off the top… just ahead of Pasini.
