Yamaha faces a decisive season on various levels in MotoGP. With the maximum concessions available under the new system, the team must make clear progress to get back into the fight for victories and avoid the risk of losing Fabio Quartararo, who is in the last year of his contract.
The 2021 champion naturally wants to see improvements and effort, highlighting to SPEEDWEEK.com that he doesn’t want just promises for a renewal: ‘I think if they do half of what I ask, I would be very happy. It would be a big step in the process of returning to the top. Of course, when I see that Yamaha is really pushing, improving, and getting closer to victory, then I want to be part of that. But they have to show me a lot, not just for me to renew’.
That said, Quartararo expressed his confidence in the project: ‘I don’t want them to just show things for me to sign. I want them to work very hard. Yamaha is a great brand, and if other factories can do it, Yamaha can do it too. I firmly believe that we can return to the top’.
